About Department

The Council of Higher Education accepted the application for the establishment of a 4-year Local Governments Department within the Faculty of Political Sciences of Marmara University on 12.12.2012. Thus, the under graduate program of the local goverments department was established for the first time in our country.

The Local Governments Department's first students started their education in the academic year of 2015-2016. Local Government Department can be likened to the Political Science and Public Administration in Turkey. However, unlike them, we try to understand political, social, economic and administrative events from a local perspective. In this context, we focuses more on local governments and urban issues. On the one hand, the department looks at the functioning of local politics and local democracy, on the other hand, it follows the global developments and the effects in the international field.

The department provides its students with the necessary knowledge and skills so that they can have the necessary professionalism in various public institutions and in the private sector, especially local governments.

What does the department promise?

Students of the Department of Local Administrations will graduate from the Faculty of Political Sciences. They will be entitled to take the exams that graduates of the Faculty of Political Sciences can take.

  • They will have the opportunity to rise more rapidly in local governments, especially metropolitan municipalities
  • They can be public employee
  • They can make application to Ministry of İnterior.
  • Thanks to the equipment and competence they will acquire after graduation, they can take part in many national or international institutions, organizations, associations or foundations.

The Department of Local Governments and the Faculty of Political Sciences is located on the shores of the Bosphorus. Our campus offers its residents a fresh air, a decent environment and a warm atmosphere.

We will be happy to see you among us.
